12th Grade Application
For over 100 years, Alpha Phi Alpha has as one of its tenets, the support of youth through active community service. The Delta Lambda Chapter of Baltimore City accomplish this by providing individual mentoring and leadership training for participants through programs which emphasize scholarship, manly deeds and love for all mankind. Our chapter interprets this to mean instilling standards of culture, scholarship and academic excellence in the lives of Baltimore’s young men. Through programs such as the beautillion, members of this chapter hope to have a positive impact on the lives of youths and to guide them toward more purposeful futures.
During the Beautillion experience, the young men who are called “Beaus” are presented with a variety of self-improvement topics designed to facilitate the beaus’ transition from adolescence to adulthood, from high school to college and to help them in raising scholarship money. Topics such as professional dress and grooming habits, civic engagement and the political process of local governments, understanding emotional health, sexual health, building healthy interpersonal relationships, personal financial management during college and beyond, and post-secondary educational opportunities. They attend cultural activities, build peer relationships and are exposed to multiple career development activities through career mentors from the Delta Lambda Chapter and partners who share their professional careers. The Beaus also receive information that builds their knowledge and skills about religion, dating, sexual health, and other topics that will enhance their preparedness for manhood.
